Our 1st Grader

Our youngest became an official school boy last week. I wasn't sure if the Swiss practiced certain first day traditions as the Germans do---like filling up a Schultute (School Cone) with school goodies and some sweets and gifts but I saw to it that he'd have one to bring to school.

He was excited and nervous at the same time. A feeling of insecurity was obvious in his face knowing that his German isn't as fluent as the others but A and I were there to assure him that all will be fine. Yes, he understands quite well but speaking is still something to learn and in time I'm sure it'll be just a piece of cake :-)

He's the youngest in the class. In fact a year behind because most of his classmates were born on 2002. It was the timing of his entry in the Swiss school that was kind of an issue in the beginning since he was coming from a local kindergarten (who have started learning) and would be a bit advanced compared to the kindergarten kids in the Swiss school who were just more on playing. We had an agreement with the Principal that he'll be observed if he can be promoted to Grade One--and well, here he is!

We're off to a new phase for him and we'll see how he progresses. One thing's clear--we're on full support.

@ Sixth Crescent

We finally selected and confirmed the tenancy agreement to our new home for the next two years. It's not as big as the one we currently live in now but I prefer its more homely design. Not that I'm complaining with the old one---this house always gave the wow factor to whoever saw it. With its high ceilings and looong design, its quite impressive. However, after living in such, I want to go back to the traditional feel and cut of a regular house.

Close to the school of the little ones, very accessible to public transportation and an open field for our dear dog Jake---it's a good choice. Of course we're now half an hour's drive to the airport than 12 mins. and biking to the East Coast Park is no longer possible, but hey---you win some, you lose some right?

Now it's time for the next phase...moving in, moving out!

I thought of Mom

It was February 25, 2007 when my mom finally won over cancer. It was the day she said goodbye...

Despite having a heavy heart, passing smiles helped me get through that day. Everyone walked---if it is to console, to relax or just be---it was to be remembered.

As the children sat on a huge log and the others made a pause to quench their thirst, I looked up and made this photo. It was just a matter of seconds before the feeling of tranquility left me and I was glad to have felt it. It was mom. She lived life to the best and fullest of her ability.

Though Mom's departure was too soon, it did not come untimely. She used the borrowed time given to her to teach, give and show love in a special way. The strength, the will and the faith she had are inspirations to many--most of all to me and my family.

I am who I am because she continued to believe in me no matter what others say.

I will miss Mommy. Our talks, our discussions, our fights...everything that spiced-up our relationship. But one thing stays, I am her daughter and in me, she lives.

I love you Mommy Ganda...you gave justice to that title.
